Hello! My name is Aycan Kokturk. I am the creator of Morikukko. I started the brand with a solution-driven approach. As a mother of three young children, the concept of hooded backpacks first came to life after one of my sons refused to wear his hat.
The Story Behind the Name
“Mori” means the woods in Japanese and “Kukko” is rooster in Finnish. Our brand logo is a rooster. I have always liked the phonetics of Northern European languages and also Japanese. A rooster is a symbol of abundance as well as eccentricity and I’ve become a collector of rooster pictures and figurines over the years. For me, Picasso’s and Chagall’s rooster paintings are extraordinary. I’ve always thought “If one day I create a brand, I have to incorporate a rooster…”
